Ally Bat

Multidimensional aerialist

Visionary. Rebel. Whimsical. Otherworldly.

Ally is a multidimensional aerialist, creator, and visionary storyteller specializing in dance trapeze, theatre, costume design, and immersive performance experiences. Her work blends aerial arts, cinematic imagery, invented apparatus, and emotionally driven narrative to create visually striking worlds that explore freedom, telepathy, dreams, and the surreal edges of human experience.

She began her aerial training in Toronto in 2014 at Flying Arts Collective, before continuing into a full-time professional aerial arts program at Urban Circus NYC. Since then, she has trained with internationally acclaimed coaches including Renata Peñal, Nicolas Stocco, Rachel Walker, Marinana Fernandez, and Rachel Strickland. Her training has included intensive study through the Irish Aerial Dance Festival, Kootenay Circus Arts Festival, Paper Doll Militia teacher training, and ongoing creation-based mentorships and advanced training across Canada, Mexico, and Europe.

As both a soloist and collaborative creator, Ally has performed locally and internationally at major festivals, theatres, conventions, and immersive events since 2015. Her aerial work has been featured at Shambhala Music Festival, Bass Coast Festival, Kaslo Jazz Etc Festival, and Envision Festival, performing alongside recognized artists including Khruangbin, Tycho, and Ivy Lab.

She is one half of the performance duo Fly By Night and a longtime core creator with Circus Acts Insomniacs, an interdisciplinary aerial, dance, and fire troupe known for ambitious large-scale productions. Within the company, Ally works as a performer, co-creator, director, choreographer, costume designer, and producer, helping develop immersive original works that combine aerial arts with theatrical storytelling and surreal visual design. Their productions at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson, BC, have sold out for four consecutive years, including the acclaimed original works Exoskeletal, Oneiro, Go On Git, and Upside Clown.

Her performances span a wide range of apparatus including dance trapeze, hoop, straps/loops, silks, fire performance, and custom invented apparatuses such as aerial bed, carousel, and strope loop. In 2025, Fly By Night premiered Telepathy, an original aerial work performed on an invented double dance trapeze apparatus that explored the themes of non-verbal communication and telepathy.

Ally is currently developing a cinematic aerial art film centered on a woman’s struggle against the societal constraints of the 1700s. Combining aerial arts, costuming, choreography, and epic historical landscapes, the piece explores authenticity, identity, and the courage required to break free from inherited expectations.

Through aerial arts, theatre, and immersive performance design, Ally’s work seeks to relate to the audience on a deeply personal level and to evoke emotions through this self-expression. Ally pulls inspiration from her own experiences and creates pieces that draw from the darker aspects of self and transforms them into beauty.

In addition to performing, Ally is a coach and has been teaching dance trapeze at Discover Circus since 2019. With a background in teaching Karate (she is a black belt) and yoga, aerials came naturally to her and seeing her students steadily improving became a true joy.

Ally lives a whimsical life on the lake surrounded by mountains in the remote town of Nelson, BC, with her fluffy ragdoll cat Loki.
